SYDNEY, March 19 (Xinhua) -- A 17-year-old learner driver has died in a two-vehicle crash in the Hunter region of Australia's state of New South Wales (NSW), said local police.

NSW Police said in a statement on Tuesday night that emergency services were called to John Renshaw Drive, Black Hill, around 9 p.m. local time on Tuesday following reports of a collision between a Holden Commodore and a Ford utility.

The learner driver of the Holden died at the scene. A 17-year-old rear passenger of the car was critically injured and airlifted to hospital. Another 56-year-old front passenger of the Holden was transported to hospital in stable condition.

The 62-year-old woman driving the Ford utility sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for mandatory testing.

The police have established a crime scene and launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
