6 hospitalized after house fire in Australia's Queensland

SYDNEY, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- Six people have been hospitalized, including two children with life-threatening injuries, following a house fire in the Australian state of Queensland on Sunday morning.

Emergency services were called to the fire at a property in the city of Townsville, over 1,000 km northwest of the Queensland capital of Brisbane, shortly after 5:30 a.m. local time, and located multiple people within the home.

Two children, including a toddler, were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical conditions with life-threatening breathing issues.

Four more people, two adults and two teenagers, were also hospitalized in stable conditions with smoke inhalation injuries.

A spokesperson for the Queensland Police Service told local media that a crime scene has been established and that an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
