2 killed in light plane crash in Australia's Queensland

SYDNEY, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- Two men -- the pilot and the only other occupant -- were killed when a single-engine light plane crashed in the Australian state of Queensland shortly after takeoff around 6 a.m. local time on Tuesday, local police said.

The plane came down and hit the ground in scrubland outside Heck Field, a small airfield on the northern outskirts of Gold Coast.

The crash sparked a large grassfire in the area that remained out of control as of 10:30 a.m. local time, with around 50 firefighters deployed to contain it.
